Two doctoral students from Avignon University awarded

Doria Boulghobrawho is defending his thesis on 3 February, received the prize for the best oral communication at the "Printemps de la Cardiologie 2020" congress. The event, organised by the French Society of Cardiology, was held online on 29 and 30 October.

Simon Tarabona young doctor at the Mediterranean Institute of Biodiversity and Marine and Continental Ecology (IMBE), who defended her thesis on 26 November 2020, was awarded the 2020 Young Researcher Prize by the Foundation for Research on Biodiversity on 10 December.

The registration procedures for theHabilitation to supervise research (HDR) and theAuthorisation to Conduct Research (ADR) are now done via your ENT account in a ticket support request to the Maison de la Recherche.

Call for applications "Young Doctoral Jobs".

The PACA Regional Council is renewing its support for future doctoral students in the region, renewing its "Young Doctoral Jobs" funding scheme for 2021.

Future doctoral students are invited to take note of this call for applications for "Young Doctoral Jobs" and the application form here.

Complete applications must be submitted before Friday 26 February 2021 (noon) in one copy in electronic format (only one PDF file per project) to gestion-ed@univ-avignon.fr

January 2021

Patrick Gianfaldoni is a lecturer in Economics and a researcher at the LBNC. Her current research focuses on "the experimentation project of an alternative tourist accommodation" and on "the territorial identification of structures between social and solidarity economy (SSE) and circular economy".

December 2020

Florence Charles is a lecturer and researcher at theUMR Qualisud She is working on plant physiology and post-harvest technologies to improve the preservation of fresh fruit and vegetables. In particular, it works on physical technologies as alternatives to chemicals and studies the impact of these technologies on the sanitary and nutritional quality of plants. The ultimate goal is to reduce post-harvest losses and waste.

Research projects

Start of the European project SELMA

The project SELMA (Stream Learning for Multilingual Knowledge Transfer), on which the specialist team in Automatic Natural Language Processing Laboratory of Computer Science of Avignon (LIA) led by Yannick Estève, aims to build a multilingual multimedia platform. This project was selected by the European Commission from among 55 applications.

The ANR Cap'Alert project

The research project Cap-4-Multi-Can'Alert is funded under the National Research Agency (ANR) Flash JOP24 call for projects. It is led by Johnny Douvinet, teacher-researcher at Avignon University and specialist in warning systems at the UMR Espace.

The ODUS project wins the "Innovative Digital Services 2020" call for projects

Within the framework of the Call for Projects "Innovative Digital Services 2020" launched by the Ministry of Culture, the "ODUS" Project led by the Centre Norbert Elias (CNE) is one of the 16 winners selected from the 118 applications received. Led by Eric Triquet on the Avignon University side, the Odus Project aims to creation of a "data cooperative for the performing arts for cultural actors, researchers and local authorities"..

Investment Programme for Research

Within the framework of the Multiannual Investment Programme for Research, the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Pharmacology (LaPEC) has benefited from a modular microplate reader with software. The UMR EMMAH is equipped with a mass spectrometer for the analysis of water isotopes and dissolved elements (Carbon and Nitrogen).

International

Invitation in residence: UMR ESPACE welcomes Professor Jürgen Schmude

Within the framework of the Avignon University's "Invitations in Residence" programme, the ESPACE geography research unit will welcome from September 2020 to May 2021 the German Professor Jürgen Schmude.

His research focuses on the spatial disparities of tourism, the fine-scale impact of climate change on the tourism economy and the behaviour of tourists, in particular on their choice of destinations and their perception of safety issues.

The Conversation article, written by Thierry Dutoit (Director of Research at CNRS/Avignon University/Institut Méditerranéen de Biodiversité et d'Écologie (IMBE)/Aix-Marseille University) and Arne Saatkamp (Senior Lecturer, IMBE/Aix-Marseille University), tells us that traces of Roman sheepfolds, although abandoned more than 1600 years ago, are still visibleThis is particularly true of the Crau plain, a vast steppe area located in the Bouches-du-Rhône department.

News on valorisation, partnerships and intellectual property

The Laboratoire Informatique d'Avignon (LIA) and the company ZENIDOC sign a

research collaboration contract on automatic language and speech processing

Following two study and consultancy contracts carried out in 2019 and 2020 by the LIA for the company ZENIDOC, which specialises in publishing IT software for health establishments, the partnership between the LIA and the company ZENIDOC is continuing with the signing at the end of 2020 of a collaboration contract for

research for 4 years. The objective is to carry out work on the treatment automatic language and speech processing applied to the medical field. This research collaboration contract involves two LIA teacher-researchers: Mickael Rouvier and Richard Dufour. It will allow the participation and training of two alternating students and a doctoral student.

Implanteus Lecture Series

As part of the training programme of the University Research School (EUR) Implanteus, the University of Avignon proposes a series of scientific conferences.
They will take place on 3e Wednesday of the month on both campuses Jean-Henri Fabre and Campus Hannah Arendt from 2.30 to 3.30 pm.
Next date : 17 FebruaryCindy MORRIS (INRAE) will speak on the theme "Friends or foes? Plant pathogenic microorganisms that can trigger rainfall".

Seminar of the Research Federation (RF) Agorantic

In 2021, the RF is introducing a new feature: a multi-session seminar every 2nd and 4th Friday of the monthwhich will be held online via the BBB platform.
It focuses on questions and topics related to the themes of the axes but is intended to be open to the greatest number of people and to encourage a fruitful dialogue between researchers from different disciplines.
The theme of the second session of the 12 February is "Digital heritage projects: approaching a border object" and will be presented by Allison Guiraud, Lise Renaud (Centre Norbert Elias), Guillaume Marrel and Ouassim Hamzaoui (LBNC).
