Validate a diploma by blocks of skills
Institutions authorised to award diplomas and certificates registered in the Répertoire national des certifications professionnelles (RNCP) offer the possibility of gradually building up one's career. They can thus certify skills "in blocks", at the end of the various training modules followed, established according to a reference system of skills for the diploma in question.
- The blocks of competences consist of a division of existing diplomas into specialised homogeneous blocks.
- This scheme aims to support your career progression in the short and medium term. It gives you the freedom to directly target the skills you need to achieve your professional goals.
- The validated block of competences is acquired definitively. The order in which the blocks are prepared and validated is free.
- Each block validation is sanctioned by a certificate of achievement. In the end, validation of all the blocks that make up a course enables you to obtain the diploma. Thus, the blocks of competences make it possible to spread out over several years your project to resume your studies.
- All the blocks constitute national diplomas that are eligible for the CPF and can be obtained through VAE. As such, the blocks serve as a basis for the process of access to the diploma by way of VAE.
Constitution of the blocks of competences in teaching units
The competences of each block are acquired within specific or transversal teaching units (UE). The block of competences is acquired when each teaching unit is validated. The recognition of diplomas is associated with a value defined in European credits, at the level of study concerned. The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a tool of the European Higher Education Area to make studies and courses more transparent. It helps students to move from one country to another and to have their academic qualifications and periods of study abroad recognised.
ECTS allows 'credits' earned at one higher education institution to be counted towards a qualification at another. ECTS credits represent learning based on clearly defined learning outcomes and their associated workload.
ECTS increases the flexibility of study programmes for students. It facilitates the planning, implementation and evaluation of higher education programmes. It is a central tool of the Bologna Process, which aims to make national education systems more internationally comparable. It has been adopted by most countries in the European Higher Education Area as a national credit system.
Validation of blocks of competences via teaching units
A teaching unit can be broken down into constituent elements of a teaching unit (ECUE). Each EU is capitalised by obtaining a mark equal to or higher than 10/20.
The student cannot re-register for a capitalised UE.
An ECUE can be capitalized on the double cumulative condition that :
- The candidate obtains a mark of 10/20 or higher;
- The value of the ECUE in European credits has been set.
The student cannot re-register for a capitalised ECUE.
