UMR 5648 CIHAM - History, Archaeology and Literature of the Medieval Christian and Muslim Worlds

Activities

For the period 2021-2026, CIHAM's research will focus on three themes, complemented by a cross-cutting theme (see below). https://ciham.cnrs.fr/2021-2026-recherche/).

1) Theme 1: Territory, Economy, Environment

The 'Territories, Economy, Environment' theme is structured around five programmes: 'Spaces, Margins, Borders', 'Markets and Merchants', 'Work, Powers and Society', 'Sordidissimes' and 'Loot, Ransoms and Tributes'.

2) Theme 2: Govern, Dominate, Resist

The theme of 'Gouverner, Dominer, Résister' (Governing, Dominating, Resisting) aims to maintain a focus on comparative approaches in a multi-scalar framework, from the French to the European worlds, and, in perspective, on East/West cross-analyses.

3) Theme 3: Knowledge and Authorities

The 'Knowledge and Authorities' theme considers the medieval mechanisms of intellectual elaboration by which a society delimits legitimate knowledge and organises its transmission.

4) Corpor@Tech-Open Science cross-cutting theme

Corpor@Tech-Open Science links the different themes and is nourished by their various activities. It is based on the digital humanities, which have been a cornerstone of scientific production for several years.
