Last field trip for Pierre Derioz with geography students from Avignon University

News 18 April 2024

Pierre Derioz, who has taught geography and planning at Avignon University for 36 years, will retire in autumn 2024.

From 27 to 29 March, he supervised his latest field trip to the plateau of the Caroux massif (Haut Languedoc) with 23 students from a geography degree course (Licence 3), who stayed at the La Fage gîte. The aim was to study the dynamics of the closing in of the landscape by the forest and the associated risks of a reduction in biodiversity.

Whether it's with undergraduate or Master's students in geography, or with those in the E-tourism & Tourism Project Management Master's programme that he has directed over the last few years, Pierre, an outstanding logistician, has organised countless field trips, giving students the chance to put their know-how into practice and get a real feel for many of the local realities and/or concepts covered in lessons.

For many of them, these outings remain highlights of their training, both in terms of their educational contribution and the positive role they played in terms of cohesion within the classes.

A big thank you from the students and the geography department
