Biography

  • Jean-Christophe Sevin is a lecturer (SIC) at the IUT in Avignon.
  • Member of the Avignon IUT research committee
  • Researcher at the Centre Norbert Elias (UMR 8562)
  • Member of the Laboratory Council
  • Her research is part of the "Culture and mediation" and "Building community" thematic areas of the laboratory.
  • His research lies at the crossroads of information and communication sciences, the socio-anthropology of culture and cultural studies. It is structured around one question: how cultural forms - particularly musicales - are constituted, circulated, transformed and inscribed in territories. This question articulates three research themes: the situated uses of sound reproduction and dissemination technologies; the spatial dimension of cultural forms (territorialisations, circulations, scenes); and the political, institutional and collective receptions of popular musicales. More broadly, this work is concerned with the relationship between culture and power, and the way in which popular cultural forms can constitute spaces of autonomy, resistance or experimentation, while at the same time being caught up in issues of patrimonialisation and control.
  • Another body of work focuses on the issues of restoration, archiving and heritage preservation of sound recordings. It examines the technical and aesthetic choices made in the process of transferring, restoring and digitally reissuing recordings, and the concepts of authenticity that guide them. This research extends the work on intangible cultural heritage and the ordinary uses of heritage by shifting the focus to sound documents, the conditions in which they are conserved and the ways in which they can be reappropriated.
