Travelling exhibition «The visible part of the camps: photographs of the Nazi concentration camp at Mauthausen»
2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps. To mark this occasion, in partnership with Amicale Mauthausen – Amicale nationale des déportés, familles et amis de Mathausen (National Association of Deportees, Families and Friends of Mauthausen) – the Maurice Agulhon Library is hosting from 8 December 2025 to 9 January 2026 the travelling exhibition «The visible part of the camps: photographs of the Nazi concentration camp at Mauthausen».
This exhibition, designed by a team of historians specialising in the camp and historians of photography, presents three perspectives at three different moments in the existence of the Mauthausen concentration camp complex in Austria, based on an exceptional collection of 500 photographs taken by the SS while the camp was in operation, those taken at the Liberation by Francesc Boix, a Catalan prisoner, and those taken by the American liberators. Depending on the identity and intention of the photographer, it presents various visions of the camp, showing only the visible part of it.
The inauguration will take place Monday, 15 December at 2 p.m. at the reception desk of the Maurice Agulhon Library.
