Summary

La politique sous les drapeaux. Histoire des expressions et actions politiques des militaires (1800-1852) is a study of the army as a political space between 1800 and 1852. On the one hand, by looking at the army as a place where people spoke out, commented on and analysed the discourse of those in power and those in opposition. Secondly, by examining the participation of the military in political events and their reception of them. The aim will be to demonstrate the existence of political discourse and positions taken by men in the armed forces and to study the reactions of the military and civilian authorities. We will seek to understand the politicisation of actors within this particular social space that is the army, an instrument for maintaining order. Finally, we will attempt to understand the meaning that the various players gave to the idea of service in the armed forces during the first nineteenth century, and to understand the resulting discourse.
