Presentation of the round table :
The second round table in the lecture series Law and artificial intelligence will be held on the morning of Friday 17 October 2025. Bringing together specialists in private and public law, it will focus on the security uses of artificial intelligence.
The aim is to use concrete examples (facial recognition, algorithmic video surveillance, predictive policing, etc.) to examine the impact of these technologies, etc), the legal issues raised by the deployment of AI in the field of security. These technologies are constantly being developed, contributing to the effectiveness of public security policies. However, they also pose a threat to the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, and must therefore be kept under control.
The European Regulation on Artificial Intelligence appears to be the main instrument for this regulation. Horizontally applicable, its purpose is to provide a framework for AI systems deployed for security purposes, both at national level and in the context of police and judicial cooperation between EU Member States. But is this regulation enough? Will it constitute a solid bulwark against the technological advances that, more than ever, herald the advent of a surveillance society? These are just some of the questions that will shape the discussions at this second round table.
