Reading Night 2025
Disobedient
Portraits of women in literature
Thursday 23 January 2025 | 19h ~ Oh | campus Hannah Arendt | Site centre-ville
For the 5ème Avignon Université is taking part in the Nuits de la lecture. This year, the university is showcasing the works of French-speaking authors and writers for a festive and committed evening. Join us on Thursday 23 January at 7pm on the Hannah Arendt campus.
The theme of this year's Reading Nights is heritage. Avignon Université has decided to tackle this theme, defined by UNESCO as 'the heritage of the past', by giving women and their creations their rightful place. So we'll be talking about heritage, replacing the legacy of our fathers with that of our mothers. We'll also be highlighting our female contemporaries, their questions about gender and the evolution of our society.
This year, Avignon Université will be giving a voice to the women - authors, writers, artists and committed readers - who are shaping French-language literature. The common thread? A feminist, militant and artistic act: collage. A practice used by many associations, collectives and citizens, collage allows for creation and expression, in an action that is almost forbidden, hidden and disobedient. It's a timeless way of putting women authors, their texts and their creations into images.
Programme :
7.30pm Concert by the Chant des Déferlantes choir
8pm Survey led by the Vaucluse Family Planning Association
9pm Reading - DJ Set by Les Nuits Sauvages and Mélanie Stravato, author and publisher of Maison Les Bras Nus

For Reading Night, we will be creating an installation to highlight the richness and diversity of writing and women authors at university.
Fiction, essays, scientific writings, poems, songs, plays, radio plays, press articles, screenplays, comic strips... It doesn't matter as long as you're a woman from the university community and you write!
Send us your productions by e-mail to patch-culture@univ-avignon.fr and we will integrate them into this installation
Thursday 23 during the day
Read aloud workshop led by Jean-Louis Estany
Register for a full or half day (10am-1pm - 2pm-5pm) at patch-culture@univ-avignon.fr
In a read-aloud workshop, you read solo, in a duo, in a trio or all together. We listen to each other. We discover texts collectively. And by hearing them, we understand them differently. Reading aloud means sharing your version of a work, exchanging ideas, exploring texts and having fun.
This workshop will offer readings of texts by historical and contemporary women authors, which can be read in the evening during the Night of Reading, according to the wishes of the participants.
Author and director, Jean–Louis Estany began his creative work in the 1970s with committed, militant theatre, and has directed a number of cultural structures, including the Maison du théâtre in Amiens, as well as running read-aloud workshops for many years.
