Description

Context

Climate change and the increasing scarcity of non-renewable fossil fuels and resources are forcing us to reduce energy consumption, use alternative solvents and give priority to renewable plant resources. These major challenges are in full response to strong consumer demand for products that respect people and the environment. This is the background to the concept of eco-extraction. This course will enable you to develop an eco-extraction process based on the molecules of interest in the plant matrix.

 - Understanding the principles of Eco Extraction

- Targeting processes according to the chemical families present in plants

 - Application of eco-extraction processes and comparison with conventional processes

 - Physico-chemical characterisation of extracts (see if programme)

- Evaluate the advantages of these extraction processes

 - Preparing the extract for formulation (atomisation, encapsulation)

PREREQUISITES

basic knowledge of chemistry

TARGET AUDIENCE

Technicians and engineers in charge of plant extraction laboratories

TEACHING TECHNIQUES AND RESOURCES

Presentation, teaching aids provided on the day, practical laboratory workGREEN Laboratory

GREEN Laboratory

Avignon University has developed the Green Laboratory, a group of researchers focusing on the eco-extraction of natural products.

The process involves isolating compounds of interest from natural resources (plants, flowers, seeds, roots, micro-algae, yeast, bacteria, etc.) for use in the food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and perfume industries, using innovative processes and solvents that are more environmentally friendly.
