The elected representatives of the Republic are often caricatured: being elected means "going to the soup", "stuffing your face", "doing nothing". On the other hand, elected representatives like to present themselves as disinterested actors, bearing only the burden of their mandate for the common good. Political science gives us a very concrete idea of what it means to be elected.

Being elected is first and foremost a skill

The sociology of political staff sheds light on the day-to-day life of elected representatives, a profession with specific skills. Based on our research, we will see that elected representatives are always part of a collective, known as an "entourage" or "political enterprise". They shape public action, control a space and often seek re-election or a more prestigious mandate. Finally, they are in a constant battle with time, trying to manage the influx of demands while using their agenda as a strategic lever for governing and exercising power.

The study of biographies in Wikipedia offers a space for analysis to understand how a multiplicity of actors represent political personnel. Through a study of the pages of parliamentary candidates between 2002 and 2024 in the encyclopaedia, we have been able to observe the different types of narratives on political personnel contributed by different types of contributors (activists, Wikipedians, etc.). We will present these different forms of narrative and the way in which they can lead to editing conflicts between contributors.
