Why are there nets in orchards? Why are apples, so widely eaten, treated so much? Did you know that viruses are used to combat certain insect pests? What impact does this have on biodiversity, birds and insects? In this talk, we'll be taking a deep dive into the heart of orchards to find out what farming practices are used, why they are used and what the consequences are.

What farming practices are adopted in orchards and why are some treated more than others? Is it simply a matter of individual choice? Whether organic or conventional, each model imposes its own constraints. The balance between agricultural production and the preservation of biodiversity is delicate and constantly evolving. But the impact of farming decisions extends far beyond the boundaries of the orchard and shapes the entire agricultural landscape. Should we therefore rethink agricultural management collectively to better reconcile production and the environment?
Ecoacoustics of birds in the field

In this presentation, we will see how sound can help us to better understand birds and their relationship with agriculture. Using audio recordings, I am studying the impact of farming practices on their presence in orchards: what factors encourage their numbers and diversity? Does the way they sing change according to the conditions in which they live? Together, we will delve into this world of sound to gain a better understanding of the links between birds and cultivated landscapes.
