On 7 May 2026, Philippe Beltrame (UMR EMMAH / Avignon University) will present a Midiscience on the theme :
«Chaos in the service of order»
In the XIXᵉ century, Maxwell imagined a «demon» capable of sorting particles to separate hot from cold. As part of a CNES project, we propose to sort airborne microparticles using a ratchet effect that plays the role of Maxwell's demon. A chaotic transition lies behind this remarkable effect.
Philippe Beltrame is a lecturer at Avignon University (UMR EMMAH / SWIFT-DISCOVE team). His main research interests are transport in complex environments.
