On 12 March 2026, Julia Pataillot, a doctoral student in info-com sciences (Centre Norbert Elias), will present a Midiscience on the theme:

«Cinema and psychiatry: representations of mental illness in images»

Cinema constantly constructs imaginary images of psychiatry, oscillating between aesthetic fascination, narrative dramatisation and social stigmatisation. My research examines the way in which films shape various representations of psychiatry, and invites us to question the place of cinema in the circulation of imaginary images of psychiatry, as well as in the collective construction of the meaning attributed to notions of difference and marginality.

Doctoral student in Information and Communication Sciences in 3ᵉ year at the University of Avignon, at the Norbert Elias Centre. Prior to this, Julia Pataillot completed the information-communication bachelor's degree and the culture and communication master's degree, both at Avignon University.
