On 3 April, Laurent Legendre, Professor of Plant Physiology (Avignon University & PSH Unit, INRAE), will present a Midiscience on the theme :
With 182 million tonnes produced in 2020, the tomato is the most widely produced vegetable in the world. Its success story is due to the selection of numerous mutations that have affected the shape and size of the fruit, as well as the development of the plant and its tolerance to disease. While recent advances in genomics have led to a better understanding of the function of mutated genes, they also offer a unique insight into the incredible history of this species and the people who have grown it in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
We are offering a series of short lectures on a wide variety of subjects (30 min presentation and 30 min discussion) aimed at the university community, the general public in Avignon and social and economic partners. The aim is to convey the essentials of a research topic and then, during a discussion, to share questions and thoughts on emerging knowledge.
