Students abroad / Covid19

Our Ministry's information and instructions are evolving and adapting daily to the development of the crisis in the world. We would like to share with you the latest press release from Frédérique Vidal, Minister for Higher Education, Research and Innovation:

The State listens to French students abroad (extract from the ESRI press release of Thursday 19 March 2020)

"In accordance with the commitments made by the President of the Republic in his speech on 16 March 2020, all French nationals who so wish may naturally return to France during the period of confinement. In this respect, French students on a temporary study or exchange trip abroad, whether as part of the Erasmus + programme or outside the European Union, can count on the support of our diplomatic and consular network if they are approaching the end of their stay, if their host university is closed or if they feel they are in a vulnerable situation and think they should return as soon as possible. Embassies and consulates will be able to assist students who so wish and direct them to the appropriate commercial lines depending on their situation, the state of the epidemic and the quality of the healthcare system in the country concerned. To this end, coordination will be set up with universities in conjunction with the Ministry's operational crisis unit.

French students involved in international mobility as part of the ERASMUS + programme will be able to keep their grant throughout their stay abroad until they return to France. As the European Commission has introduced the force majeure clause in the ERASMUS + agreements, the additional costs incurred by French students returning to France may be covered by the programme.
If students have difficulty returning to their original home or place of residence on their return to France, they may, if they wish, be offered accommodation with the CROUS.
For French students abroad who have just begun their stay and who do not consider themselves to be in a vulnerable situation, they are naturally advised to continue their training and to stay in France if they so wish.

Avignon University maintained throughout of this exceptional crisis constant contact with its mobile students. You can contact the Maison de l'International by message: mdi-covid19@univ-avignon.fr or call the crisis unit +33 4 90 16 26 17
