Coherent and ambitious basic and applied research
These areas have naturally been identified on the basis of the social, cultural and economic characteristics of the area in which the institution is located, as well as the partnership policy it has developed, particularly with research bodies such as INRA and CNRS, with EHESS, and also with the competitiveness clusters for their role as an interface between the academic research sector and the socio-economic fabric.
The "Agro&Sciences" area benefits from a remarkable concentration of Higher Education-Research-Innovation facilities, with the University of Avignon, the INRA PACA-Corse centre and the TERRALIA competitiveness cluster all located on the same site. The INRA PACA-Corse centre is developing its activities in 3 areas: integrated horticultural production, adaptation to global change and plant health.
The research themes developed in the Avignon area are carried out within the framework of multi-site research units and are therefore shared with other academic establishments (foremost among which are Aix Marseille Université and, to a lesser extent, the universities of Lyon and the ENSL).
As far as INRA and Agro&Sciences are concerned, they are also likely to mobilise all the research skills spread across the country.
A synergy of skills and resources implemented as part of shared institutional strategies has enabled the creation, around each of the 2 key areas, of a genuine "network of excellence". intelligent local specialisation "It is now time to make the most of it.
Scientific policy in the 'Culture, Heritage and Digital Societies' area is based on a close partnership with the CNRS and EHESS. An important element of this strategy in the field of humanities, social sciences and information technology was the creation in 2008 of the SFR 'Agorantic', whose fields of research lie at the crossroads between Man, Society and Networks.
Our relations with EHESS are based in particular on the Centre Norbert Elias (CNE, UMR 8562, of which the CNRS and AMU are also co-tutelles), whose interdisciplinary research in sociology, history, anthropology and communication sciences in Avignon and Marseille is a benchmark. Two of the CNE's research areas are 'Political Spaces and Objects' and 'Cultural Forms and Models'. The CNE is a member of the Agorantic research federation, with the aim of developing collaborations beyond the scope of the humanities and social sciences, one of its priorities. The CNE is also a member of LabexMed (Human and Social Sciences at the Heart of Interdisciplinarity for the Mediterranean).
