Discover: "Débranche! A holiday notebook for connected museum-lovers... and critics
A group of scientists, including Allison Guiraud and Lise Renaud from Avignon University (Centre Norbert Elias), has published Unplug!a holiday notebook for anyone interested in the use of digital technology in museums and heritage sites.
Contrary to the enthusiastic rhetoric about "cultural democratisation through digital technology", this book offers a lucid - and sometimes ironic - reading of the realities on the ground. Based on several years of surveys, first-hand accounts from professionals in the cultural sector and in situ observations, it sheds light on the many difficulties that have gone unrecognised: injunctions to go digital, technical constraints, cumbersome contracts, problems of maintenance and system evaluation.
Designed as a anti-guide playful and reflective, Unplug! is aimed at museum and heritage professionals, digital professionals, students of museology or cultural engineering, and anyone interested in taking a fresh look at digital heritage.
This project was designed by Camille Béguin (Université Côte d'Azur), Allison Guiraud and Lise Renaud (Avignon Université), Nicolas Navarro (Université de Liège), with the assistance of illustrator Renaud Perrin and graphic designer Géraldine Fohr. It was supported by the French Ministry of Culture, the Centre Norbert Elias (UMR 8562) and the PEPR ICCARE programme.
📌 Worth noting
This work is part of the ARIANE from PEPR ICCAREThis platform has a number of objectives: to contribute to the ongoing development of a dynamic map of projects, to convey the expectations and needs of CCIs to the research community, to encourage the emergence of collaborative regional clusters, and to create links between the various initiatives in the programme. An evolving platform, ARIANE is accessible to everyone by simply registering using a form, and then joining the working groups and associated mailing lists.
📘 An ideal summer read to get you thinking... and unplugging at the same time.
