Researchers continue work on FR-Alert, the new smartphone-based public alert system
FR-Alert is the new smartphone-based population alert system being developed by a project team coordinated by Johnny Douvinet, Professor of Geography at Avignon University / UMR ESPACE 7300 CNRS.
Since 2022, the multi-disciplinary project team has been assisting the prefectural authorities and the Ministry of the Interior with numerous warning exercises involving the population, using the new FR-Alert multi-channel warning platform, and assessing the needs of the public to be taken into account in the content of warning messages.
To date (5 June 2024), 157 exercises and 37 real alerts have been broadcast in France via FR-Alert. The authorities have recently emphasised the importance of this collaboration:
