- Work environment and context: 1. Description of the project or research operation to which the agent's duties relate: The Joint Research Unit for Safety and Quality of Plant-Based Products (SQPOV) brings together expertise in physical chemistry, food technologies, sustainable processes and the valorisation of agri-resources. Within this joint research unit, the GREEN team is internationally recognised for its expertise in eco-extraction, alternative solvents, process intensification, co-product valorisation and the extraction of high added-value natural molecules. The position is part of the EXVALBIO ODR, dedicated to replacing petrochemical solvents (particularly hexane) with bio-based alternatives in line with European sustainability, safety and ecological transition issues. The EXVALBIO project aims to: - Develop innovative eco-extraction processes using alternative bio-based solvents, - Design integrated extraction-purification approaches, - Optimise the recovery of agri-food co-products, - Study the quality, functionality and stability of the natural extracts produced, - Transfer the processes to pilot or pre-industrial scale. The project supports the GREEN team's structural research activities and contributes to the scientific strategy of the SQPOV joint research unit within the AgroSciences division of Avignon University. 2. Description of the expected results for which the contract is to be concluded with the agent: The expected results are - The development and optimisation of robust, reproducible and transferable eco-extraction processes. - The generation of characterised natural extracts (composition, purity, functionality). - The development of associated analytical and technological protocols. - Scientific (publications, reports, communications) and technological (transferable protocols, collaborations) promotion. - Participation in the GREEN team's outreach activities in the field of alternative solvents. 3. Precise description of the event or objective result determining the end of the contractual relationship: The contract shall terminate upon completion of the tasks entrusted to the agent within the framework of the research operation and upon achievement of the expected results mentioned above. The contract may be terminated if the project or operation for which it was concluded cannot be carried out. The absence of funding (research contracts, ANR projects, European projects, industrial partnerships) related to this research operation will also mark the end of the contractual relationship. 4. Methods for evaluating and monitoring the achievement of this result: - Annual project monitoring committees. - Annual progress reports. - Indicators: extraction yields, process transfer, scientific valorisation, collaboration with partners. - Final report submitted to Avignon University. Your tasks: v Main activities: The Research Engineer will carry out the following tasks: - Develop eco-extraction processes using alternative bio-based solvents - Design and optimise integrated eco-efficient extraction-purification approaches. - Explore the substitution of petrochemical solvents with sustainable alternatives. - Valorise agri-food co-products via green processes. - Study the stability, quality and functionality of the extracts produced. - Contribute to the adaptation of processes on a pilot or pre-industrial scale. - Ensure the traceability, safety and development of laboratory protocols. - Participate in the drafting of reports, publications, protocols and deliverables. - Contribute to the technical supervision of interns and doctoral students. Working environment: Reporting line: The agent works under the scientific responsibility of Maryline Abert-Vian, Professor, head of the EXVALBIO project, and interacts with researchers, engineers and doctoral students at the UMR SQPOV. v Working conditions: The agent will carry out their duties mainly within the UMR SQPOV laboratories, in a chemistry and process engineering environment involving the use of extraction and physico-chemical analysis equipment. These activities require strict compliance with health and safety rules, particularly when handling chemicals. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with the laboratory's researchers, engineers, doctoral students and interns, as well as with academic and industrial partners. Occasional travel may be required to carry out pilot-scale trials or to participate in scientific coordination meetings. v Special requirements: The position involves certain requirements related to periods of intensive experimentation, particularly during extraction campaigns or scale-up phases, which may require more intensive work organisation. The agent will also be required to contribute to the collective tasks of the laboratory and to ensure that their activities comply with safety rules and internal protocols at all times. A high degree of rigour will be expected in the traceability of experiments and the management of sensitive equipment. Required profile: o Operational skills: • Mastery of extraction processes • Proficiency in analysis techniques applied to plant matrices • Knowledge of alternative solvents and green chemistry approaches • Ability to develop and optimise eco-extraction processes (including on a pilot scale), while taking into account the variability of plant raw materials o Behavioural skills: • Organisation • Project management • Teamwork • Reporting skills • Scientific and experimental rigour • Autonomy • Writing skills • Adaptability • Proactive approach
