FRANCE EXCELLENCE Eiffel Scholarship

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 2026/2027

The Eiffel Excellence Scholarships programme has been developed by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs to offer the best foreign students degree courses at Masters and Doctorates.

It provides training for future foreign decision-makers in the private and public sectors in priority areas of study, and stimulates applications from foreign students.

The highly selective selection of candidates managed by Campus France is carried out by a committee made up of seven panels of experts (one for each field of study). Avignon University does not select the winners.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The 2026 call for entries is open from 1 October to 28 November 2025.
Incomplete applications sent after the deadline will not be considered.

Please note: Participation in the Eiffel programme does not exempt you from the application procedures and criteria applicable to foreign students, particularly with a view to obtaining a visa.

The fields of study concerned are

  • Science and technology :
     - Biology
     - Ecological transition
     - Mathematics and Numeracy
     - Engineering sciences
  • Human and Social Sciences :
     - French history, language and civilisation
     - Law and political science
     - Economics and management

MASTER LEVEL

Accessible to students aged up to 29, i.e. born after 31/03/1996.
Please note! Students already in France are not eligible for this grant.

The monthly grant is €1,200 per month.
In Master 1, the maximum duration is 24 months.
In Master 2, the maximum duration is 12 months.

The documents to be provided are : 

  • CV (2 pages maximum)
  • Cover letter
  • Diplomas
  • Transcripts
  • Professional project written in French
  • Language certificate, if applicable
  • Copy of passport or identity document

Please note! Only the best students with an excellent average will have their applications considered.

  • Contact the Espace Campus France in your home country or the cooperation and cultural action department of the French embassy, which will be able to give you guidance and advice on your study plans.
  • Apply on the Etudes en France platform in your country.

  • Complete the application form.
  • Do not contact the Master's supervisors directly. Once your application is complete, we will check with the Master's supervisor whether he or she accepts and supports your application for the Eiffel scholarship and, if so, we will submit your application on the dedicated platform.
  • It is the Eiffel programme that selects the winners, not Avignon Université.

PHD LEVEL

Open to candidates aged 32 or under at the time of application selection.
Please note: applicants living in France are eligible but do not have priority.
Please note! There is no point in putting together an application if you do not have a thesis director.

The grant is €1,800 per month, plus direct payment for a number of services: international and national transport, insurance, accommodation, cultural activities, etc.

For candidates in the 1ʳᵉ year of their thesis and newcomers who are not co-tutors, the duration is 36 months.

For all candidates, particularly those already working on their thesis as part of a co-directorship or cotutelle, the duration is between 12 and 18 months (12 months maximum for registration in the 2ᵉ or 3ᵉ year of the doctorate; 18 months maximum for registration in the 1ʳᵉ year or 2ᵉ year of the doctorate).

The documents to be provided are :

  • Identity document
  • CV
  • Diplomas and classification
  • Language certificate or diploma (if applicable)
  • Transcripts of marks for the last three years
  • The candidate's career plan
  • A presentation of the thesis project, written in French or English (maximum 5 pages)
  • expert opinion argues on the scientific quality the subject of the thesis
  • The CV of the expert who wrote the opinion on the scientific quality of the thesis subject (summary CV max. 2 pages, beyond which the document will not be taken into account).
  • The overall funding plan for the thesis
  • The co-supervision agreement or certificate of co-supervision signed by the French and foreign parties, including the timetable for alternating periods of study in the event of split periods, for 12 and 18-month grants. For 36-month applications, where there is no obligation to co-direct or co-supervise, attach a blank page.

Application procedure :  

  • Contact the person supervising or co-supervising your thesis (list of labs) who will support your application.
  • With their help, obtain expert advice on scientific quality.
  • Complete the application form.
  • Once your application is complete, we will check it and confirm that it is complete.
  • Avignon Université will submit your application on the dedicated platform reserved for institutions.
