This conference echoes the choreographic show Joséphine2B scheduled for 7.30pm. In this show, Chantal Loïal and her company Difé Kako evoke the history of Afro-descendants, through the figures of Joséphine de Beauharnais and Joséphine Baker, to take a closer look at the contemporary ravages of chlordecone.
"Pesticides: necessary poisons?
Pesticides have been used since ancient times to combat disease and pests, but their use has increased considerably since the Green Revolution of the 1960s. Despite a declared desire to reduce their use, dependence on these chemicals remains very high. Environmental pollution and the effects on ecosystems and human health are considerable. Through case studies, such as that of chlordecone in the West Indies, we will answer the following questions: what do we know about this pollution? What are the effects on us and our environment? Why has it come to this? Can we do without pesticides?
A specialist in soil ecology and director of research at theINRAE, Céline Pelosi is working on the effects of agricultural practices, including the management of soil organic matter, and climatic stresses on certain soil fauna communities. These activities are at the heart of contemporary issues such as the ecological intensification of agrosystems, climate change and the preservation of natural resources.
