On 9 April 2026, Emma Leone, a doctoral student at IMBE, will present a Midiscience on the theme:

«78 years of pollution following the burning of munitions in a protected natural area».»

The soils of the Crau plain (southern Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), contaminated by metals from the burning of munitions during the Second World War, remain partially devoid of life 75 years later. The pollutants change the properties of the soil and have an impact on biodiversity. Brachypodium retusum can stabilise these metals, offering the potential for phytoremediation. These results will guide renaturation and pollution management.

Emma Leone is a PhD student in her 2ndᵉ year at IMBE in Avignon. Her research topic revolves around ecological restoration, phytoremediation and ecotoxicology.
