[Incoming mobility] Avignon University and IMBE welcome Dr. P. Valentina Carrasco Carballido
This academic year, Avignon University and the IMBE are welcoming lecturer and researcher Dr. P. Valentina Carrasco Carballido..
A Mexican national, Valentina works at the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM), at the Biodiversity and Conservation Research Centre (CIBYC, Centro de Investigación en Biodiversidad y Conservación) in the Sustainable Management for Ecosystem Conservation and Development research team. Her main line of research concerns ecological restoration with the participation of local communities. Valentina will be based at the IUT in Avignon until June 2024. She is receiving support for incoming mobility from Avignon University.

SUBJECTS TAUGHT
"I teach the optional subject "Ecological restoration in tropical ecosystems", which is taught in hybrid mode as part of the Master's degree in Integrative Biology of Biodiversity and Conservation (MBIByC) and the Bachelor's degree in Biology at the Faculty of Science of the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM) in Mexico".
RESEARCH TOPICS
"The main objectives of my research are to improve ecological restoration actions with the participation of local communities. In particular, this involves being able to answer questions relating to restoration actions for conservation in or near nature reserves. I am also involved in monitoring compensation measures put in place by government bodies in order to grant operating permits to companies (e.g. mining).
My interest is in working with multi-purpose species that can not only help to restore an ecosystem, but also contribute to the re-establishment of ecosystem services useful to human populations, while keeping in mind the long-term conservation objective. The results are then applied to the conservation management or ecological restoration of ecosystems degraded by intensive agriculture, intensive livestock farming or extraction activities (quarrying, mining)".
