Master MEEF: Métiers de l'Enseignement, de l'Education et de la Formation (Teaching, Education and Training Professions).

The History-Geography course in the MEEF-second degree specialization is designed to prepare for the History-Geography CAPES competitive examination (or the CAFEP for private education).

The M1 year is structured around theoretical training and internships, and preparation for the competitive examination.

The M2 year prepares the tenure of trainee teachers who have completed the M1 MEEF and passed the CAPES exam. A special course is available for students who have completed the M1 without having passed the competitive examination and who wish to take it again.



  • In M1, internship in a school (college or high school), organized by the E.S.P.E.
  • In M2, internship of tenure (9 hours per week) for the winners of the competition
  • In M2, a reduced internship in a school for those who have not won the competition

A Licence degree is required for admission to the course.
A request for VAE (Validation of Acquired Experience) can also be used to apply for the course.

The training in Master MEEF being made in collaboration with the E.S.P.E. of Aix-Marseille, the registrations must be made with this establishment:

Targeted skill(s)

  • Disciplinary knowledge: preparation for the six questions of the program for the eligibility and admission tests.
  • Didactics: acquisition of methodological and institutional frameworks for teaching history and geography in secondary schools. Knowledge of the disciplinary contexts and their evolution in order to shed light on pedagogical practices.
  • Research: training in research methods and tools provided in the schools.
  • Context of the profession: contexts of schooling (supporting disciplines: philosophy and sociology). Secularism, equality, the question of ethics and law, as well as the societal issues of education will be dealt with: questions of authority and violence, the question of social inequalities, school/family relations. In connection with the skills required for the competition and the common base.
  • Learning conditions (supporting disciplines: psychology and law). The main theories of learning and the pedagogical practices associated with these theories will be dealt with, as well as evaluation methods and their biases, the motivation to learn of pupils and the practices of pedagogical differentiation. The course will also cover the status of civil servants and their obligations, knowledge of the functioning of schools and the exercise of educational responsibility.
  • Professional placement: observation course with pedagogical support and accompanied practice course.
  • Modern language: Language courses aiming at the B2 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Further studies

  • Obtaining the M1 MEEF gives access to the M2 MEEF, which corresponds to a year of alternation (internship in a school/university training). Obtaining the M2 MEEF is necessary for the tenure of the trainee teacher.
  • A course without a sandwich course, but with an observation period, is arranged for students who have an M1, but who have not obtained the CAPES/CAFEP and who wish to represent it.
  • Preparation for the agrégation in history or the agrégation in geography.
  • PhD.
