Licence's degree in Sciences, Technologies, Santé, major: Chemistry
The Licence's degree in Chemistry of Avignon University gives students a solid training in chemistry as well as knowledge in English, physics and biology.
During the first year, thanks to the implementation of orientation portals, the choice of major in the second year remains open.
Thus, a student who enrolled in a Chemistry degree in the first year can change direction and enroll directly in a Physics or Biology degree depending on the portal followed in L1.
In the third year, to prepare for future orientation, the Chemistry degree offers a single course but with a choice of two possible options (food science or chemistry).
It thus allows for further study in a Master's degree, in particular in Chemistry, and in Teaching, Education and Training (MEEF) for the first or second degree.
The studies emphasize the active involvement and the autonomy of students through tutorials, numerous practical assignments and a professional internship at the end of the course.
Goals
The licence in Chemistry is structured in three years, i.e. six semesters, organized in such a way as to allow students to gradually build their training project.
The students will be prepared for:
- obtain the national diploma of licence with the mention Chemistry after validations of their 180 ECTS credits,
- follow a Master's degree in Chemistry offered by a French or European university,
- follow the master PCA (food consumer products) offered by Avignon University,
- follow a master in teaching preparing for recruitment exams: CAPES/CAFEP of physical sciences - Professorat des écoles,
- access on title or competition to many engineering schools specialized in chemistry.
Specificities
The licence in Chemistry is a new licence offered at Avignon University from the beginning of the 2018 academic year. It replaces the Physics-Chemistry degree with a Biomolecular Chemistry course, but with new content and a better reorganization of studies to better prepare students for the new challenges of tomorrow's world. Unlike other licenses that offer a mention but several courses, this new license offers a single course with a general education in chemistry (general chemistry, fine chemistry, process chemistry, analytical chemistry), and allows students to choose to specialise during the two years of the Master's degree.
Students enrolling in the first year of the chemistry degree will be offered a choice of two orientation portals (the choice will be made at the beginning of the academic year in September):- Physics-Chemistry (P-C),
- SVT-Chemistry (SVT-C).
- Licence SVT or Licence Chemistry for the SVT-C portal,
- Licence Chemistry or Licence Physics for the P-C portal.
In L3, all students follow the same courses and have the choice between two options. One of the options (food science) aims to prepare the master PCA of AU towards which the students will be able to direct themselves at the end of L3, the other option prepares them for a more general orientation in Master of Chemistry towards other establishments.
A master's program in engineering (CMI) - Food Production Engineering - is attached to our training and is accessible by application.
International
The Chemistry degree encourages outgoing mobility of its students (during a semester or an academic year) via the international partners of the UAPV.
A student remains registered at the UAPV during their period of study abroad. They pay their usual tuition fees at UAPV and are exempt from paying tuition fees at the host university.
The results obtained abroad are validated by the jury of the Avignon chemistry degree.
ERASMUS field (if applicable)

Internships
Mandatory at the end of the L3 (4 weeks minimum)
Partnerships
Business partnerships
Many companies in the region and particularly on the Agroparc are privileged partners of the Chemistry degree since they regularly welcome its students in professional internship.
Research centers partnerships
The Chemistry degree program benefits from the research contributions of the various research laboratories of the UAPV. research laboratories of the UAPV research laboratories to which the majority of the chemistry teachers belong:
- the team Eco-extraction of natural products (GREEN) - UMR A408 SQPOV
- the team Micronutrients: Reactivity and Digestion - UMR A408 SQPOV
- the team Restoration Engineering of Natural and Cultural Heritage (IRPNC) - UMR CNRS 7263-IRD 237 IMBE
- the team Bioorganic chemistry and amphiphilic systems (CBSA) - UMR 5247 IBMM
Publics
Prerequisites for enrolment : Bac, Bac + 1, Bac + 2
Required former training
Baccalaureate or equivalent for entry into L1 (a scientific baccalaureate (S) is strongly recommended).
After a pedagogical committee with study of the file:
60 ECTS validated for entry into L2

Admission conditions
In Licence 1, access by right to holders of a scientific baccalaureate.
Access in L2 and L3 after advice of a pedagogical commission:
- Students with a DUT, a BTS or a diploma recognized as equivalent corresponding to at least two years of scientific studies after the baccalauréat
- students who have validated 120 credits, the majority of which are in scientific units and, for the chemistry courses, one third in this subject - as part of a validation of professional experience,
- students from the CPGE,
- Access is also possible for students coming from an exchange program (ERASMUS)
Register
At Avignon University, the pre-registration and registration procedures are done online on the website, see the "Registration" section.
Please note that some courses are only accessible after one or several steps of pre-selection and/or selection. Therefore, before registering, you must meet all the conditions for admission.
Cost and financial aid
* Subject to change (under validation)
Conditions of validation
Each UE (Teaching Unit) or UCE (sub-part of UE) is evaluated according to the terms of control of knowledge given at the beginning of the year:
- either by continuous assessment,
- or in final examination.
These UE/UCE are compensable and can be capitalized.
- Year of highschool graduation
- Bac + 3
- Level of education obtained after completion
- Niveau III
Targeted skill(s)
The Chemistry degree as offered at Avignon University offers a broad education in chemistry: general chemistry, fine chemistry, environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry.
