The AES-Political Science and Europe degree offers a multidisciplinary and demanding training based on the four pillars of social, economic, legal and managerial sciences.

Goals

It provides the tools to decipher the major contemporary geopolitical and environmental issues, as well as social and economic problems at the local, national and global levels.

By linking intellectual references and professional skills, the degree contributes to the training of responsible executives concerned with the general interest in the public and private sectors.

It is primarily aimed at students wishing to continue their studies and specialise in a Master's degree.

International

Students can spend one or two semesters abroad as part of the University's exchange programmes. The studies carried out abroad are validated in the curriculum at Avignon University.

Recommended educational background(s)

The AES-Political Science and Europe Licence is open to students holding general baccalaureate degrees (ES, L and S).
High school students with a technical baccalaureate can succeed if they do a lot of work during the first year in particular.
Students with a professional baccalaureate are only exceptionally successful.

Admission conditions

Admission to the first year is subject to a limited capacity of 200 students.

Admission procedures

There is no admission procedure other than pre-registration and registration with the school within the limit of the 250 places available for the first year.

Admission to L2 or L3 is subject to the assessment of the teaching staff.

For foreign candidates, the level of French B2 is required.

Please note that some courses are only accessible after one or several steps of pre-selection and/or selection. Therefore, before registering, you must meet all the conditions for admission.

Students must be able to follow a demanding teaching course in terms of both the diversity of knowledge and the methodological learning required.

To this end, they are closely supervised by the teaching staff from the first year onwards in tutorials and methodological support.

Conditions of validation

Continuous assessment in the units with tutorials.

Final examination in the other teaching units (except for semester 1). Two sessions for final exams only.

1) Disciplinary skills:

  • To be able to identify and analyze power relations and the institutional and relational frameworks in which they are structured, in the history of the major geocultural eras
  • To mobilize the necessary elements (concepts and methods) for the practical and theoretical analysis of these relationships
  • To design and use the tools and methods of qualitative and quantitative social science research
  • To use the main tools for taking administrative exams, both in writing (dissertation, summary note, etc.) and orally (interview techniques, role-playing)
  • To know how to formalize a synthesis, build an argument, show critical thinking, question oneself
  • To use accounting and financial management tools of the company
  • To read and interpret company accounts

2) Pre-professional skills:
  • To situate one's role and mission within an organisation in order to adapt and take initiatives
  • To identify the process of production, diffusion and valorisation of knowledge

  • To work in a team as well as independently and responsibly in the service of a project
  • To design and lead collaborative projects: from project set-up to its promotion to various audiences

3) Cross-cutting skills:
  • To use the digital tools of reference and the rules of computer security to acquire, process, produce and distribute information as well as to collaborate internally and externally
  • To identify and select various specialized resources to document a subject
  • To analyze and synthesize data for use
  • To develop an argument with critical thinking
  • To use easily the different registers of written and oral expression of the French language
  • To use with ease written and oral comprehension and expression in at least one foreign language
