Service Units: LSBB and CLEO

A joint service unit (UMS) is an administrative entity created by the signing of a contract of association between a higher education institution (usually a university) and a research organization (usually the CNRS).
A service and research unit (USR) can accommodate both administrative and technical personnel of the organisations and research personnel.

Avignon University has two service units:

- The Low Noise Underground Laboratory of Rustrel (LSBB), under the joint supervision of the University of Nice-Sophia-Antipolis (UNS), Avignon University, CNRS, Aix-Marseille University (AMU) and the Observatory of Côte d'Azur (OCA).

The purpose of these "operational service structures is, on the one hand, to make material resources available to operational research structures and, on the other hand, to carry out research support actions".
