conference-debate: Beyond the language barrier

News 15 May 2023
A conference-debate on multilingual theatre and theatre in a minority language.

During our 2022 edition, the Printemps Anglophone, in collaboration with the ICTT research laboratory (Avignon University), launched a research project around multilingual theatre and minority languages, including round tables, interviews and documentation of the presence of these forms at the Avignon festivals. This approach brought together theatre professionals and researchers and demonstrated that these forms of theatre, which are beginning to take an important place in the programming of the Avignon Festival, are rich in artistic possibilities. The research programme will continue in 2023, notably through the observations and interviews that will take place during the next edition of the Avignon Festival, where English will be the guest language of the edition. In this new conference-debate we demonstrate the diversity of these forms, share our first observations and hypotheses, and exchange with researchers, artists and the public in order to identify the axes for our further work.
